Spoony Stories - meet Melissa! 👋

Welcome to Spoony Stories ❤️🥄 We love our wonderful community on Spoony! It's such a delight to get to know some of the people who make Spoony so brilliant and learning more about their experiences with neurodivergence, chronic illness and disability.

This week, we've been chatting with Melissa from the United States. She shares about her experience navigating life while being neurodivergent, why she loves Spoony, and much more! ♥️

Are you neurodivergent, chronically ill, and/or disabled?

Neurodivergent.

What health conditions do you have?

ADHD, Autism and Anxiety.

How do you explain your health conditions to other people?

I explain my health conditions by being open and honest, but also keeping it simple. I try to make it clear that I’m constantly growing in my understanding of my neurodivergence and what it means for me.

What impact do your health conditions have on your daily life?

My health conditions have a significant impact on my daily life. Anxiety can sometimes make social interactions or decision-making feel overwhelming and ADHD makes it challenging to stay focused. Being on the Autism spectrum, I struggle with sensory overload or interpreting social cues. Sometimes I need extra time or space to recharge.

What barriers have you experienced in making friends and connecting with people?

Making friends has been challenging at times. Anxiety can make social interactions feel overwhelming, ADHD can make it hard to stay engaged in conversations or follow through with plans, and being Autistic means I sometimes struggle with interpreting social cues.

What's been your experience on Spoony so far?

I love that Spoony is a supportive and understanding community. It's comforting to connect with others who understand the challenges I face daily, and the app creates a space where I can share experiences and learn from others without fear of judgment. It feels like a safe place where we can all be ourselves and support one another in our journeys.

Each week, we share stories from the incredible Spoony community in our newsletter, podcast, and on social media. Share your story with us.
