Spoony Stories - meet Jacinta! 👋

Welcome to Spoony Stories ❤️🥄 Sharing stories is a powerful reminder that we're not alone. Each week, we share stories from our vibrant community to hear all about their experiences being neurodivergent, chronically ill and disabled, and to get to know some of the voices that make our Spoony community so wonderful. This week, we chat with Jacinta from Australia!

Spoony Stories - meet Jacinta! 👋

Welcome to Spoony Stories ❤️🥄 Spoony has the kindest community, there's so much thoughtfulness and generosity that we're lucky enough to see. One of our favourite things is getting to know some of the lovely people on Spoony and learning more about their experiences with neurodivergence, chronic illness and disability.

This week, we chat with Jacinta from Australia! Thanks for sharing your story! ❤️

Are you neurodivergent, chronically ill, and/or disabled?

Neurodivergent.

What health conditions do you have?

Anxiety, Depression, Autism, PTSD and BPD.

How do you explain your health conditions to other people?

I really struggle to explain my mental health conditions to others, no one truly understands what it's like. I tell people that I'm neurodivergent.

What impact do your health conditions have on your daily life?

My mental health conditions have taken a lot from my life. I couldn't work full time and struggled to make friends easily. Autism makes it hard for me to socialise and understand social cues and jokes.

What barriers have you experienced in making friends and connecting with people?

I've found it hard to make friends because I find social cues, jokes and sarcasm confusing. I find it hard to have conversations that are not about my specific interests because I don't know how to contribute when I don't know much about something.

What's been your experience on Spoony so far?

I've met lots of different people on Spoony and it's been fun to learn about their different interests.

Each week, we share stories from the incredible Spoony community in our newsletter, podcast, and on social media. Share your story with us.
